Cummins chose the Artemis New Product Development Solution to implement a Portfolio Management methodology and processes along with project, resource and cost management. Artemis addressed Cummins’ needs for a web-based solution to span their global offices and for a system that could match with their technology infrastructure. Other key factors in Cummins’ decision include time reporting to capture the actual cost elements, and the implementation of an operational system in time for annual budgeting.
Establishing an accurate budgeting system and ensuring budgetary alignment from portfolio to project was the Diesel Engine Group’s priority objective for Artemis. The next phase will be to extend the solution to IT, overseas locations, and to other business lines.

The online application is used by Heads of Departments, Project Managers and the Financial Department for activity budgeting (floating budgets) and ongoing budget control (expense monitoring, etc.). The entire NPD solution comprises a number of applications integrated with Artemis, including an interface with Lundbeck’s Accounting system.

The Artemis NPD solution was selected to help Arcelor improve R&D management through more efficient innovation management, the selection and execution of projects aligned to business goals, and accelerated return on investments. This will be achieved through a fully integrated solution providing an over-all vision of the planning and resource status for program mangers, while enabling project and work package managers to plan their projects, assign resources and identify delays and problems in advance. Additionally the solution will provide a collaborative environment shared by all R&D staff and Clients, with dynamic scoreboard analysis, and access to program/project documentation.
The Artemis NPD solution is being implemented through a phase approach in order to respond more quickly to management’s priorities and ensure user acceptance phase by phase. Focusing first on implementing Planning and Resource Management, this will enable Arcelor to respond to Management’s objectives of meeting client deadlines, identifying resource bottlenecks and sharing collaborative views of planning and reporting.
